On November 19, 2019, Sarah Schaefer Walton presented "Austen as Fangirl: Maria Edgeworth's Influence on Some of the Biggest Names in Nineteenth-Century Literature." In this talk, Walton contextualized Edgeworth's role in the political and educational discourse of her period, foregrounding her fascinating novel Belinda in order to consider how Edgeworth might have influenced Austen's novels specifically. Participants enjoyed discussing the unconventional gender roles in the novel, including that of the fascinating Lady Delacour.
